Interesting facts...

Tell us a Little about yourself.

Theresa Jacobs believes in magic, fairies, dragons, and ghosts. Yet she trusts science and thinks that aliens know way too much.
Though she still works full-time, she has published eight books in five years and has a short film on the indie circuit, with a feature film in the works.
When she is not at work, she spends her time, reading, writing, exercising her dog, and binge-watching TV shows, with her long-time partner and fiancé.
She is also a big movie buff and a sci-fi nerd at heart.

Tell us your latest news

I published my new book in June: Titled Handsome. It’s a new genre for me about a serial killer.

When and why did you begin writing?

I began writing as a child, I was born with the desire to tell stories. I started writing my first novel in my early twenties, but didn’t publish it until I was in my forties. Once I felt sense of accomplishment, I never looked back and have 9 books in 5 years.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When I had my debut at the local bookstore, Chapters, and they said I had the biggest turnout of any indie-author to-date.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I’m a panster. I write from a concept only and begin at page one, writing straight through until the end.

How did you come up with the title for you last book?

My last book was The Zombie Effect and the title says it all – how the zombie craze today affects our children’s minds.

Do you have a mentor that helped or encouraged you to follow your dream of writing?

I have a few mentors. My first is Lisa Crawford, who after telling her own personal tale of transforming from male to female, alleviated my fears of sharing simple fiction. My second is Zane Dowling, he read my first book, told me how terrible it was, and worked with me for a year to improve it. Without those two people I wouldn’t be where I am today.

What are your current projects?

I am more than half way finished another new genre, a YA lit/mystery/romance. I’m terrible at picking one category. I have a feature film that is apropos to what’s transpiring in the world today, in the works for a grant to begin filming. I also am writing a Christmas- comedy screenplay with my dearest friend Jackie Leahey. And other books are growing in my mind too, perhaps a YA-horror series will be next.

Can you share a sample of your current work with us?

Here’s a snippet from HANDSOME:

Leaning closer to the bodies, Marcy closed her eyes inhaling through her nose. She paused as though listening and inhaled again.

“You know it freaks me out when you do that,” Davis said.

“There’s a scent I’ve smelled before.” Sniffing the air like a dog, she said, “I’m almost positive I picked it up at the last scene too. It must be a cologne, there’s a woody undertone and vanilla?”

“Well, that’s not going to catch a killer and the coroner’s here, I’ll get out of the way.”

Marcy moved around the grotesque presentation, capturing it all on tape. “Have you notified the Chief yet?”

Inspector Davis crossed his arms and snorted. “What? That we may have a serial killer on our hands? That’s your call, Detective Gagon.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you for believing in me and returning again and again, it’s you that makes me want to be a better writer.

Is there one person past or present you would like to meet and why?

My answer is always the same, D.B. Cooper.  There is so much that is intriguing about his story, from who he really is, to why, and most importantly HOW?

What do you want written on your headstone and why?

I don’t want a headstone. I don’t believe anyone should have to pay for death, nor that we should be marring the earth more than it is. We belong to the universe and should be left out for nature to reclaim.

Other than writing do you have any hobbies?

I enjoy arts and crafts, knitting and many failed attempts at drawing. Of course, I’m a voracious reader.

What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

I love comedy. I love to laugh and enjoy downtime, so my main go to is sitcoms.  My current constant repeat binges are: It’s always Sunny in Philadelphia, Modern Family, Cougar Town, Raising Hope, Seinfeld, Friends, Brooklynn 99, Third Rock from the Sun…and this list goes on and on.

If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?

Well I wish I could draw. I’d be an artist first because it doesn’t take a year to work a canvas and I have too many ideas to work on them all at once.

One final question...Do you have a blog/website? If so, what is it?

Love the bit about the headstone. All I want is a bunch of dandelions & Abide With Me.

I’ve read “Handsome”, and I recommend it.

Great piece. An insightful and interesting interview which proves that an author is so much more than the name on a book.
